Ultracapacitor Energy Storage System

UTS, with support the New York State Energy and Research Authority (NYSERDA), is developing a new ultracapacitor based energy storage system (ESS) for on-road and non-road electric and hybrid vehicles. The program’s goals are to increase the use of ultracapacitors thru the introduction of a low cost and rugged module. The module incorporate cell balancing, passive thermal management and a low part count to keep assembly costs down. UTS has applied its over 25 year team’s experience to analyze and develop the module. The ESS module is an improvement over other commercial ultracapacitor modules based on its ability to be used in high and low voltage environments without the need for additional enclosures and thermal management.
